As a child Jo found her own swim lessons were boring and too hard which is why she loved GRs structure and FUN! approach to swimming lessons. Her own children's swimming lessons weren't ideal either! Huge classes, no rewards for the children, lack of leadership, no enthusiasm.
Class ratio of 6:1 or less, Fun & enthusiastic teachers, Experienced supervisor to help children, teachers & parents. Continual assessment & lane progression,
GRs commitment to safety and safeguarding is paramount and non-negotiable
Our classes have a unique structure, understanding that children learn by repetition and FUN! GR follow the Swim England Learn to Swim programme which ensures children are rewarded 3 times a year with certificates. These are awarded at the beginning of the last lesson of the term - followed by a structured fun session!
Beginners from 3yrs
Usually wearing arm bands, lessons are held in the shallow end of the pool, where the instructors are in the water, on the children's level. Our teachers help shy, nervous, anxious or scared children acclimatise to their lessons. The focus is on water confidence.
This personal approach helps children settle into and look forward to their lessons each week. The trust grows as we help the children take their first steps to swimming on their own....that moment when they find they can 'do it' is so precious
Improvers & Advanced Swimmers
Its not how far you can swim, its how you get there that matters. Poor practise makes permanent.
New children will be assessed across all 4 strokes and then placed in a suitable class. We do not assess by age - we assess by ability. Anything over 25m, must be swum to expected Swim England / FINA standards. This will be explained.
Our advanced swimmers will be invited to join our academy, swimming lengths of the pool. The warm up is 200m. Children will be taught more in depth stroke technique, stamina drills, learning tumble turns, the correct starts and finishes. The aim is to complete the Swim England Honours Challenge - GRs holy grail!
Complimenting academy is our Rookie lifeguard Programme which follows the programme set by the RLSS. It can support the Physical or Skills Sections of the DofE award scheme
Competitive Swimming and beyond.....
Is your child a future olympian?
GR have excellent links to assess and feed into local Swim Clubs
We sometimes get asked to do private lessons on a 121 basis. This can be a lot of pressure for little people. Small groups can help children settle as the focus is not just on them, also there's a little healthy competition involved...if you have access to a private pool we may be able to help
